Boston Calling Music Festival: Saturday; Who, What, Where, Why?
by Charissa Lock
Boston Calling is coming! Are you going? BC is a two day music festival in city hall plaza in downtown Boston on May 25th and 26th. General Admission is sold out but you can still purchase VIP tickets here.
Here is a preview of Saturday (5/25)!
fun. – of course everyone is looking forward to this performance, we haven’t seen fun. around here in quite awhile and sure miss their flawless performance and killer songs from both Aim & Ignite and Some Nights.
The Shins – still traveling on the coattails of Port of Morrow, we’ll be excited to exhale to “Simple Song” and inhale their retro indie rock sound.
St. Lucia – One of the more electronic dance-esque artists on the bill for day one, allowing a little bit of yourself to be lost in the quick beats and angelic wispiness that delicately surrounds this Jean-Philip Grobler masterpiece (Check out his tune “September” here).
Marina and the Diamonds – though not a fan, I’ve heard a live show on her tour promoting Electra Heat is pretty memorable which leads me curious, intrigued, wanting to know what hair color she’ll have, and wondering if she’ll have any of the “Heartbreaker” boys with her…
Matt & Kim – In October they released Lightning with singles “Let’s Go” and “It’s Alright” (check out the fantastically choreographed video for “It’s Alright” here.). Craving the moment when “Now” starts and I lose my brains.
Portugal. The Man – Hoping there will be a mustache, and very excited about their artwork posted on their banner and other such places, this band has been through quite a few changes and seeing what they’re all about in a live performance is going to make choosing who to see quite controversial.
Cults – Not having an album since 2011, with no posts of another on the horizon, their presence here is one of wonder, yet they do have quite a few summer festivals…
MS MR – We’re excited about this one for obvious reasons (Check out our review of their recent release Secondhand Rapture here).
Bad Rabbits– A local Boston band with a lot of flavor and groovin’ post-rock Rhythm and Blues style, I may not want to pass up this opportunity to see these gents in a festival setting.
Look for continuing coverage on Boston Calling over the next couple weeks.
