Coachella Feed + Add-ons = The Golden Plan?
Good lord, where do we start? Coachella was not on our schedule this year for a few reasons. One, money, two, ktc selected other secondary showcases/conferences to attend in 2012 and three because of the add-on shows.
We chose pretty early-on to go to Pitchfork’s Forms, which-was-subsequently-pushed-back, in favor of SXSW. Well that, didn’t work out to good… Since, Coachella is more of a fun thing and since we only knew people working, I (Matt) chose to take advantage of the sponsored State Farm youtube.com/coachella feed and some of the add-on shows in the area.
Here’s “my next best thing to Coachella” schedule…
4/12 M83 with Big Black Delta at The Fox Theater in Pomona, CA (unbelievable show, even the band thought so)
4/16 Manchester Orchestra with Fanfarlo at The Fonda Theatre (formerly The Music Box)
4/17 Madeon with Codes and Very Special Guests at the Roxy Theatre
4/19 Justice with The Rapture and Busy P at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, NV
+ Spend the entire first weekend watching every single band I want to watch with friends from the comfort of my own home. After 30 days of travel in March, this sounded like the Golden plan.
Here are the sets I watched over the first weekend of Coachella:
Explosions in the Sky
Swedish House Mafia (partial)
The Vaccines (yea Marty!)
We Were Promised Jetpacks (partial)
Manchester Orchestra (partial)
Interview With Noel Gallagher (this was hilarious)
Real Estate (partial)
Band of Skulls (partial)
Justice (Partial Set)
At The Drive In
Florence + The Machine
Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg & Eminem & a hologram of Tupac (Did anyone see Snoop trip out as he got closer to him? haha)
Designed a perfect week filled with live shows, Las Vegas and still got to see all of my favorite bands at Coachella. Not too bad, BUT I STILL WISHED I WAS THERE! #canthaveitall
special thanks to Dave Bullock for his Coachella photo from 2011.
