The Bridge School Benefit Concert

by Matthew Downes

We love charities that use music to spread their word.  Now, not every charity is great, but here’s an outstanding charity called  The Bridge School that hosts a benefit concert every year.  The lineup is incredible!

Here is their mission:

The Bridge School is a non-profit organization whose mission is to ensure that individuals with severe speech and physical impairments achieve full participation in their communities through the use of augmentative & alternative means of communication (AAC) and assistive technology (AT) applications and through the development, implementation and dissemination of innovative life-long educational strategies. The Bridge School is an internationally recognized leader in the education of children who use augmentative and alternative communication and has developed unique programs and trained highly skilled professionals in the use of state of the art assistive technology.

The first concert was held October 13, 1986 and, with the exception of 1987- the year the educational program was launched- it has become a highly anticipated Bay Area favorite.

Over the years they’ve hosted fantastic events for their cause and this year will be no different with a star studded cast of music on October 26th and 27th at the Shoreline Amphitheater. This is their 27th year! Bravo guys and girls!

Artists performing this year

Queens of the Stone Age
My Morning Jacket
Arcade Fire (Saturday only)
Jack Johnson (Saturday only)
Tom Waits (Sunday only)
Elvis Costello
Diana Krall
Jenny Lewis

What an incredible lineup for such an awesome cause! This is unbelievable too, but tickets are still available for Saturday here and Sunday here! Get in this! If you cannot make it, you can support this wonderful cause directly here too.

P.S. The Killers had to cancel their appearance because they cannot do an acoustic show without their bassist Mark who is mysteriously on the mend or maybe back home supporting family.  They did leave a nice message though:

“The Killers will regretfully no longer be able to participate in this year’s Bridge School Benefit in San Francisco, CA on October 26th. “We are so disappointed we won’t be able to participate in this year’s Bridge School Benefit,” said Killers drummer Ronnie Vannucci. “The fact of the matter is, without Mark on tour with us right now, we simply aren’t able to prepare an acoustic set for one of the year’s most important music charity events properly. We never want to give less than 100%, and in this particular instance, we simply won’t be able to. We know this is a disappointment for our fans in the Bay Area, for which we’re very sorry, but hopefully we will be able to team up with Bridge School again in the future. It’s an amazing charity, and we encourage our fans to show them a lot of love and support.”
